General & Platform

What is Profiteia, who is it for, and how do the platform and API relate to each other?

What is Profiteia?

Profiteia is an energy data platform that brings together market information, analysis tools, and real-time alerts for energy professionals. The platform provides insight into day-ahead and intraday prices, balancing, gas markets, cross-border flows, and more — with tools to immediately turn that insight into better decisions.

Who is Profiteia intended for?

Profiteia is developed for energy traders, battery operators, aggregators, BRPs, portfolio managers, flexibility managers, and data and analysis teams. Whether you trade daily, analyse periodically, or want to support a business case — the features and subscriptions scale with you.

In which countries and markets is Profiteia active?

The platform covers electricity, gas, emissions, and related markets in multiple countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, and the United Kingdom. Data streams come from EPEX SPOT, ICE Endex, EEX, TenneT, ENTSO-E, and other officially published sources.

What is the difference between the platform and the API?

The platform is the web environment: charts, tools, alerts, and export via a browser interface. The API is a programmatic access layer that lets you automatically unlock data streams to your own systems, models, or BI dashboards. Both can be used side by side — depending on your working situation.

Can I try Profiteia for free?

Yes. Profiteia offers a free trial period during which you can explore the platform without obligation and test your own working situation. See the subscriptions page for current conditions and available features during the trial period.

Is Profiteia suitable for both small and large organisations?

Yes. Thanks to the modular setup, you can start small with the information and features you immediately need and expand later. There are subscriptions for individual users up to larger teams with specific data and integration needs.

What about security and privacy protection?

Profiteia processes user business data in accordance with applicable privacy legislation. Data is stored securely and not shared with third parties without permission. For specific questions about security or data processing agreements, you can contact us via the contact page.

Data & Market Insight

What data does Profiteia contain, how current is it, and how reliable are the sources?

What data and market information does Profiteia contain?

Profiteia contains data on day-ahead and intraday electricity prices, imbalance and balancing energy, grid frequency, gas markets (TTF, gas storage), emissions (EUA), cross-border flows, solar and wind production, bid ladders and more. Every data point is traceable to a published official source.

How current is the data on the platform?

That varies per source. Imbalance prices and grid frequency are available with a delay of seconds to one minute. Day-ahead prices are processed as soon as EPEX publishes the auction results. Other datasets follow a fixed update cycle per quarter, hour, or day — depending on the publication frequency of the source organisation.

How reliable is the data and where does it come from?

Data is retrieved directly from officially published sources: TenneT, ENTSO-E, EPEX SPOT, ICE Endex, EEX, Gasunie, and other recognised market operators. No estimates or undocumented calculations are used as primary data sources.

Are historical data available?

Yes. Most data streams include a historical archive. How far back this goes varies per dataset and source. For analyses, backtests, and benchmark calculations, historical data are available via the platform and — for automated access — via the API.

Can I export data to my own systems?

Yes. From the charts and tables on the platform, you can download data in common formats. For structured or automated exchange, the Profiteia API is available, allowing you to unlock data streams directly to your own models, BI environments, or applications.

Which energy markets are monitored?

Profiteia monitors day-ahead markets (EPEX SPOT, Nordpool), intraday markets, balancing energy (FCR, aFRR, mFRR), the imbalance market (TenneT), gas markets (TTF, gas storage, ENTSOG), emissions trading (EUA), and more. Data coverage continuously grows with user needs.

Are weather data or fundamentals also available?

Yes. Besides market prices, the platform also contains production data for solar and wind, cross-border flows, gas storage levels, and other fundamental data sources. These are relevant for understanding and forecasting price movements.

Which markets and data sources can I follow?

With Profiteia you follow a broad range of energy markets and data sources in one place. Think of day-ahead, intraday, imbalance and balancing markets, supplemented with relevant price data, market indicators and news. This way you get an overview faster, see connections between markets better and work with information that is directly relevant to your analysis or decision-making.

Is data exportable or usable via API?

Yes. Data from Profiteia is easy to export and also available via API. This allows you to use market data in your own analyses, dashboards, reports or systems. Whether you work in Excel, Power BI or your own data environment: Profiteia makes it possible to use information in a way that fits your workflow.

What does the Day-Ahead Forecaster do?

The Day-Ahead Predictor calculates hourly prices for the Dutch day-ahead market as a range of three scenarios: P10 (lower bound), P50 (central expectation) and P90 (upper bound). The underlying LSTM model is trained on historical prices, weather data and fundamentals, with special attention to extreme situations such as price spikes and negative prices. The forecast is available daily before 10:00.

What is the Imbalance Benchmark and how does it work?

The Imbalance Benchmark simulates what a flexible asset could have historically earned on the imbalance market. You enter the technical specifications of your asset — capacity (kWh), power (kW), DoD, RTE, SoC and maximum number of cycles — and choose a reaction mode. Mode 1 calculates the maximum revenue with perfect behaviour. Mode 2 simulates active correction during Control State 2. Mode 3 shows the risk of a situation without timely intervention.

How does the Bid Strategy Backtest work?

The Bid Strategy Backtest lets you calculate a battery strategy historically across multiple markets simultaneously: FCR, aFRR (up and down), day-ahead, intraday and imbalance. You configure the battery settings, strategy and date range in four steps and then view the results. The v2 model (recommended) accounts for energy tax, degradation and maintenance costs.

What is the RT2 Predictor and when do I use it?

The Control State 2 Predictor calculates every minute the probability of Control State 2 for the current quarter-hour, based on the current Balance Delta, imbalance prices and grid frequency. The tool is valuable for BRPs and flexibility managers who want to dispatch their asset at the right moment — or who want to avoid undesired entry into Control State 2.

What can I do with the Electricity Market Simulator?

The Electricity Market Simulator lets you simulate the electricity market via a merit-order model. In simple mode, you configure the installed capacity per technology. In advanced mode, you enter per generator the name, maximum and minimum power, marginal costs, ramp rate and shutdown time. The simulated clearing price and dispatch are exportable as CSV.

Can I enter my own asset in the tools?

Yes. The Imbalance Benchmark, the Bid Strategy Backtest and the Electricity Market Simulator all work with technical specifications you enter. This way, each tool calculates using the actual parameters of your asset, without generalising to a standard profile.

How accurate are the tool results?

The benchmark and backtest tools calculate with historical market data — those outcomes are exact, as they look back on what happened under the assumptions you chose. The Day-Ahead Predictor is a probabilistic model: it provides a range, not a certain outcome. The width of the P10–P90 interval indicates the size of the uncertainty.

Are the tools also suitable for non-battery assets?

The tools are primarily designed for flexible assets such as batteries, but the underlying logic is more broadly applicable. The Imbalance Benchmark can also be configured for other storage technologies, provided you can enter the technical parameters (capacity, power, efficiency).

Alerts

How do the real-time notifications in Profiteia work and what can you configure?

What types of alerts can I set?

You can set alerts on price threshold values (day-ahead or intraday above or below a set level), balancing signals and market developments. The alert options align with the data available via the platform, so you receive notifications on the signals relevant to your work situation.

How quickly are alerts sent?

Alerts are sent almost in real time as soon as a threshold is exceeded. The response speed depends on the underlying data refresh, which varies per source from a few seconds to a few minutes.

Through which channels do I receive notifications?

Alerts are sent by email and via notifications within the platform itself. Depending on your settings and subscription, multiple channels can be combined so you always receive a notification when it matters.

Can I set multiple threshold values for the same market variable?

Yes. You can create multiple alerts for the same market variable, each with its own threshold and channel setting. This makes it possible to keep an early warning and a critical limit active side by side.

In which subscription are alerts available?

Choose Base for news and monitoring, Pro for forecasts and advanced analysis, or Enterprise for tailored agreements. Prices are per user per month.

Can I receive alerts outside office hours?

Yes. Alerts work 24/7. You decide which threshold values are active and through which channel you want to be reached. For notifications outside working hours, email is the most reliable channel.

API

Technical questions about the Profiteia API: availability, format, authentication and usage.

What data is available via the API?

Via the Profiteia API, electricity, gas, emission, oil and coal data are available, supplemented with balancing, imbalance, cross-border flows, gas storage and weather series. The catalogue contains both directly available data streams and modules still in development — allowing room to grow with new use cases.

In what format does the API deliver data?

The API delivers data via a REST interface in JSON format. The documentation describes per endpoint the available parameters, time resolutions and response fields. This way you know exactly in advance what you will receive.

Is the API only for large organisations?

No. Thanks to the modular structure, you can start small with only the data streams you immediately need. Based on your use case, you assemble a package that fits your processes, assets and budget — without paying for what you don’t use.

Does the API also include historical and predictive data?

Yes. Depending on the source, historical, current and predictive datasets are available. Historical data are useful for backtests, analyses and training your own models. Predictive data — such as the day-ahead price range — are available via specific endpoints.

Is the API only for electricity?

No. Besides electricity data, the API also contains gas, emission, oil and coal data, plus storage, flow and weather series. The coverage thus extends well beyond the spot market alone.

How do I get my API key?

After subscribing to a plan with API access, you receive your key via your account. For questions about availability, the right package or a demo of the API, you can contact us via the contact page.

Are there limits on the number of API requests?

Yes, usage limits apply depending on your subscription. The exact limits per plan are described in the API documentation. For intensive use or large-scale integrations, custom arrangements are possible.

Where can I find the technical documentation?

See the API documentation for endpoints, filters and integration examples.
