Connecting energy and data

Compare European electricity market data

A useful European market comparison starts with the same bidding zone, delivery period, unit and market definition. Day-ahead prices, intraday trading, reserve capacity and activated energy are different data.

Updated 22 October 2026

Which market are you comparing?

MarketWhat are you comparing? What should you check?
Day-aheadAuction price for a delivery periodBidding zone, currency and time resolution
IntradayTrading closer to deliveryContinuous trading or auction, product and timing
BalancingReserve capacity or activated energyProduct, direction, unit and settlement period

What should you check?

Compare the same delivery periods. Record the time zone and daylight-saving treatment, and distinguish publication time from delivery time. Check whether a series is an observation, settlement, forecast or revision. Do not directly compare a price per MWh with a payment per MW.

A price comparison is not an executable trading strategy. Batteries also have charging and discharging losses, power, storage and network limits, and costs. Check market access and participation conditions before implementing a strategy.

What does Profiteia cover?

Profiteia brings European data sources together, including ENTSO-E. Coverage and available history differ by dataset and series. A country listed in the catalogue does not guarantee complete data for every period. Current metadata and sample data show what is available for your analysis.

Start with the dataset

Read the current description, filters, time resolution and available examples on the dataset page. This gives you published capabilities rather than a fixed list on a marketing page.

Market terminology follows EPEX SPOT and ENTSO-E explanations. Check product coverage in the current Profiteia catalogue.
